About Kayla

I am a photographer based in the Philadelphia area. I graduated from Shippensburg University and majored in communications/journalism, with an emphasis in electronic media. During my time at Shippensburg, I served as the Multimedia Editor for my school's newspaper, The Slate. Joining The Slate was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Being a part of The Slate helped me discover my love for photography.

In 2017, I received the Keystone Press Award for "Ongoing News Coverage" in my participation for photographing the APSCUF strike. In 2018, the American Scholastic Press Association awarded me with the "Outstanding Sports Photography" award. I was one of three people in the country to receive this honor.

After I graduated, I worked as a freelance photographer for The Philadelphia Tribune. I covered a range of assignments, such as sports, concerts, marches, galas, political debates and more. My favorite assignment that I have covered is former First Lady Michelle Obama's book tour.
